Moon Glow Magic

you will need ....

Piece of stiff card or old CD (Mountboard card is best)

Versamark Watermark Ink Pad

Various colours of Moon Glow Embossing Powders (at least three)

Hot Sheet

Heat Gun

Small spoon or similar

Stamp (optional)

Metallic Ink Pad (optional)

this is what you do ....

1. Cut a piece of board or CD to the appropriate size for your project, not too big.

2. Ink the piece with the Versamark Watermark ink making sure you cover it thoroughly and evenly.

3. Choose a colour of embossing powder as your base colour and tip onto a scrap piece of paper, then press the inked shape, ink side down, into the powder. Lift and gently tap to remove the excess.

4. Place on the Hot Sheet and heat to melt the powder.

5. While the powder is still very hot use the spoon to add another colour of powder to the surface, not too much or the blow from the gun will spread it all over the place, and do not cover the entire piece, allow some of the base to show through. Heat again.

6. Again, while still very hot, add your third colour and again, just a hint in order not to obliterate your base. Heat until melted.

7. Whilst still hot you can enhance the surface by impressing a stamp into it. The stamp does not have to be inked but for an effective finish try a metallic ink.

8. Leave to cool and remove from Hot Sheet, it will come off easily as the sheet is designed to be non-stick.

Tips - Use promotional CD's, they are thinner and easier to cut.

Place your hot sheet in an old shoebox or similar, it will prevent the blow from the heat gun spreading the powder all over your work surface.

If you are going to use an inked stamp in the final layer, ink it and leave it on the pad, ready for when you need it. It is very hard to ink with one hand and if you let the powders cool down they will not take the impression.

Ghost Stamping - this is magic, well I think so anyhow.

You will need.....

White pigment ink - £4.60

Coloured pigment inks - (I used Cats Eyes) - £1.40 each

Bold stamp images

Kitchen towel

this is what you do......

Ink your image with the white pigment ink.

Stamp randomly over the white card taking care not to cross the images.

Leave to dry for a few minutes or dry gently with a heat gun.

Apply coloured pigment inks all over the card including over the white images in a DTP action, that is Direct To Paper.

Make sure you blend all the inks into each other for a soft look and use only maybe two or three colours which go together, shades of the same colour are ideal.

When all the card is covered, gently remove some of the ink by wiping the surface with the kitchen towel.

You cannot wait too long between applying the ink and wiping or the ink will dry and not come off. You will find the ink on the white images will be removed leaving the ‘ghost’ appearance of the image under the coloured inks. To finish the piece, over stamp using the same image or a smaller co-ordinating image, in the spaces between the white images.

Use a dark shade of the coloured ink, this will give depth to your work.

and that's it, a cheap but effective way to make cards. I mounted mine on co-ordinating card layers.

Tip - if you cannot match the card colours, use white card and sponge ink from the pads you used for the main card onto the edges, that way you create the perfect match!

This technique and many more are available on the Colourbox video Art Stamping Techniques.

Double embossing - make a stained glass like finish to your stamped images

you will need......

stamps

detail clear embossing powder/coloured powder for your base image

clear embossing pad/coloured pad for impressing images into hot clear powder

a selection of coloured embossing pens

and this is what you do.......

Stamp and emboss your outline image as normal, use a stamp with large areas to colour for easy effects to begin with.

Use coloured embossing pens to colour in areas, one colour at a time so as not to smudge wet inks, cover with fine detail clear embossing powder and heat.

Use next colour and repeat.

Each section will have the appearance of a glossy glass like finish

Cut out and mount - best stamps to use are open ones with little detail, butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, leaves etc. until you get the hang of it and then try more difficult ones.

Variation: Try making quick and easy tiles - colour a piece of stiff card using the embossing pens, pour over clear embossing powder and heat, quickly cover with a second layer of powder and heat again, now one more layer and heat, you now have a glass like surface to your tile.

Add colour and definition to you tile by inking a stamp before you start the embossing and when the final heating is done, quickly press your stamp into the surface, hold for a few seconds and then remove, you will now have a beautiful tile with design on the top of it.

Moon Glow Angel Wings and Kaleidoscope Sparkle - make your images stand out and add that little bit of pizazz to your cards.

you will need

a solid (ish) stamp

Moon Glow Angel Wings embossing powder

Kaleidoscope embossing powder,

various colours of pigment inks,

clear embossing ink

heat gun

 a small brush

white cardstock

and this is what you do

Ink the stamp with any colour of pigment ink including white (gives a lovely effect),

Stamp onto white card and pour over Moon Glow powders. Heat.

Taking a different colour or colours of pigment inks, sponge or DTP all around the embossed image making sure you don’t get too much on the image (use kitchen towel to wipe clean if you do).

Pour over Kaleidoscope powder and use the brush to remove the powder that sticks to the Moon Glow image. Heat.

Your Moon Glow image will pop through the sparkle of the kaleidoscope.

Try Brilliance inks for pearly effects and use more than one colour around the original image.

Variation -  use an open line stamp and colour with embossing pens, cover with Moon Glow Angel Wings and proceed as before.

Moon Shadow Mist Iridescent Metal Effects

For exquisite results with your Moon Shadow Mist just follow these simple instructions - its easy!!!

 you will need

Glossy Cardstock

Heat Gun

Hair Spray

Moon Shadow Mist in two colours

Open design stamp

Moon Glow Embossing Powders

and this is what you do

1. Emboss an open design onto the glossy cardstock. Use the Moon Glow Embossing Powders for a really iridescent finish to this piece.

2. Mix the sprays according the instructions on the bottles or on our colour chart page. Spray one colour of Mist heavily over your embossed image. Let the Mist puddle inside the image but try to leave some of the cardstock colour showing through.

3. Dry using a heat gun and for this technique seal using hair spray. Please note, when using glossy cardstock you will need to dry with a heat gun or you will still have wet Mist this time next year!

4. When the first piece is completely dry, hair spray included, choose a contrasting colour of Mist and repeat steps one and two making the second colour a bit lighter. The two colours will blend leaving a gorgeous iridescent metal effect and your original image showing through.

This is a great technique for men's cards or heritage/vintage pieces.
